Region Specific

It is a long-proven fact that regional practice in the Applied Earth Sciences is strongly impacted by the overall nature of geologic conditions and of Regionally-Important Geologic Materials (RIGMs). As with much of the database of the Applied Earth Sciences, there are essential elements of Region-Specific Topics that should be available for individuals taking assignments in worldwide locations other than their usual region of practice, either as visiting consultants or as emigres.

Mapping Technique

Geologic maps can be made any scale applicable to the problem to be solved; the basic techniques should be kept in mind by all practitioners, yet technical advances in Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and Geographic Positioning Systems (GPS) have elevated these skills to a new level of sophistication. The Foundation feels that its practitioners should be fully aware of this basic “toolbox,” and applied the knowledge and technologies frequently and accurately.
